The Jefferson park and recreation department is offering a summer session of familiar fitness classes beginning Monday, May 11, at the Greene County Community Center.
Extreme Fit, a total body strength/cardio challenge tailored to each individual’s fitness level, will be offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12 to 1 pm. Simeon Lang will lead the class.
Yoga classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting May 12, from 7 to 7:45 pm with instructor Arizona Kruse. Participants can bring their own yoga mat or blanket, or use on of JPRD’s. The class is limited to eight participants.
Morning Groove will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 to 8:45. Big Ball Toning will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 6:45 am. The class will offer an anaerobic workout done with a stability ball. Both classes will be taught by Jean Van Gilder. The classes are limited to eight participants.
Tone & Tighten will meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 to 6:45 am. The session begins March 18. The class focuses on both the upper and lower body by toning the hips, thighs, glutes, arms, shoulders and back with the use of hand weights. Instructor is Jenny Wessling. The class is limited to 15 persons.
Cycling classes will meet Tuesday evenings from 5:15 to 6 pm and Saturdays from 8:30 to 9:15 am, starting May 18. The stationary bikes provide a good cardiovascular workout, as riders control the intensity of the workout as they pedal the bike. Cycling burns calories and builds cardio and muscular endurance without impact on joints. Emily Vander Wilt will teach the class. The class is limited to six participants.
Classes put “on hold” are Zumba, step aerobics, tai chi and Senior Fitness.
